Mr. Whitesell, 85, of Charlotte, NC died Monday, February 18, 2013. He was born in Jamestown, NC, December 5, 1927, son of the late Robert Banks Whitesell & the late Eula Wall. Bob served in the US Navy in WWII & the Korean War. He received his undergraduate degree from Houghten College where he married his college sweetheart, Agnes Julia Bonesteel. He later earned his Masters Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. He retired from the VA Hospital in Salisbury as a social worker. Mr. Whitesell, 85, of Charlotte, NC died Monday, February 18, 2013. He was born in Jamestown, NC, December 5, 1927, son of the late Robert Banks Whitesell & the late Eula Wall. Bob served in the US Navy in WWII & the Korean War. He received his undergraduate degree from Houghten College where he married his college sweetheart, Agnes Julia Bonesteel. He later earned his Masters Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. He retired from the VA Hospital in Salisbury as a social worker. He was gifted mechanically & enjoyed many hobbies. He rebuilt cars, made beautiful stained glass windows, took gorgeous pictures & could fix anything. He and his family spent many happy hours camping all over the US. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Agnes, daughters Carol Williams & husband Kent, and Elena Hunsucker & husband Mike, and sons Paul Whitesell & wife Sue and the late David Whitesell; and brother Roy Whitesell & wife Joy. He leaves behind five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The service celebrating Bob's life will be held at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212, at 12:00 PM, on Wednesday February 20, 2013 The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church, 6841 Poplar Tent Rd., Concord, NC, 28027, or a charity of the donor's choice .
