Richard Franklin McNairy, 55, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on August 6th, 2017, at Duke University Hospital in Durham. He was born on December 4th, 1961 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Patricia Barfield McNairy and John Adams McNairy, Sr.

Richard was an avid guitarist, playing in the band Black Dog Down. He wrote and sang many songs, including his favorite, "Crows in the Cornfield." Richard Franklin McNairy, 55, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on August 6th, 2017, at Duke University Hospital in Durham. He was born on December 4th, 1961 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Patricia Barfield McNairy and John Adams McNairy, Sr.

Richard was an avid guitarist, playing in the band Black Dog Down. He wrote and sang many songs, including his favorite, "Crows in the Cornfield." He played golf and pool at a high level, winning several local pool tournaments. Among his favorite hobbies in his early life was hunting with his daddy, Walter. He was a fan of the Carolina Panthers, as well as Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., in NASCAR. He loved to spend his vacations on the beach or on a cruise with his children. As a young man, he studied printing and worked for Action Graphics, a local printing company. Later on in life, he worked in finish carpentry, where he began his own company, Circle R Trim.

The family will hold a service on Saturday, August 12th, at 2 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Rd. Charlotte, NC 28212.

Mr. McNairy is survived by his three children, John Franklin McNairy (Jackie), Franklin Dillard Barton McNairy (Frankie), and Patricia Loris McNairy (Patti); his mother Patricia Barfield Bottoms; and his brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Darden McNairy (Beth), Charles Alton McNairy (Chuck), Robert Kelly Bottoms (Kelly) and wife Monica Bottoms, Terry West White and husband Walter White.

He is preceded in death by his daddy, Walter Morris Bottoms, Jr., his father, John Adams McNairy, Sr., and his brothers John Adams McNairy, Jr., and Kevin Morris Bottoms.

He was a devoted brother, a loving father, and a beloved son. He will be sorely missed.
