Mrs. Fowler, 74, of Charlotte, NC, passed away January 11, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1937 in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of five children to the late V.B. Lockey and Vilrie Weaver Lockey. Mrs. Fowler worked as a telephone operator with Southern Bell for more than thirty years before her retirement. After retirement, she joined Reedy Creek Elementary School where she enjoyed working with the children in the cafeteria. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 1160. Mrs. Fowler, 74, of Charlotte, NC, passed away January 11, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1937 in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of five children to the late V.B. Lockey and Vilrie Weaver Lockey. Mrs. Fowler worked as a telephone operator with Southern Bell for more than thirty years before her retirement. After retirement, she joined Reedy Creek Elementary School where she enjoyed working with the children in the cafeteria. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 1160. Mrs. Fowler and her late husband Billy Joe loved to travel and every summer would travel the US and visit historical places and landmarks.
Joe Ann was a very loving, humorous and quick witted person, who loved being with her family and spending time with them especially her grandchildren.
The Fowler family will greet friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Friday, January 13, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Fowler will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2012 in the Chapel of McEwen at Sharon. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
Mrs. Fowler is survived by her two loving daughters: Dottie Hammond and husband, Bill of Indian Trail, NC and Amy Trammell and husband, Michael of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren: Jake, Emily and Greyson Hammond and Sydney, Megan and Ava Trammell; a sister, Patsy Wylie of Charlotte, NC; two brothers: Gene Lockey of Greenville, SC and Jimmy Lockey of Foley, AL. Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Fowler in May of 2010 and a sister, Louise Hudson.
